TRAIN SIMULATOR

A Train Simulator.

Train Simulator 2021 is a game released in 2009. Next year it will be Train Simulator 2022 and that's kinda weird isn't it. When I first looked at the game last year, it was Train Simulator 2020. This is an illusion that every year there is a new game. But there isn't, it's the same game.

This game features something like £6000 worth of DLC (at the time of writing), ranging from train routes, to trains, to add-ons for routes and add-ons for trains. There are even dedicated steam guides created in the aim of helping new players understand how the fuck the DLC works in this game, as some DLC require other DLC to work (like the Sims 4's "My First Pet Pack"), and some DLC includes the same things that other DLCs include (such as a train being included with a route add-on, but also being part of it's own add-on).

Regardless, there are obviously people who buy all this DLC, I've seen review pages who buy each one as it comes out and call new DLC the highlight of their week. I'm not going to shame these people because I'd do the same if if I had fuck-you money just lying around.

The gameplay itself is pretty cool. You drive trains. The controls seem to be pretty accurate, but I've never been behind a train's controls to actually know. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the beast, the game gets pretty boring after a while unless you've got stacks upon stacks of DLC to sift through. The Deluxe edition that I bought only came with 3 add-ons, which gave me 3 routes and a few trains. One of the routes is Scotland and that's the route I've done the most.

I think Train Simulator gets a 10/10 on the Train scale.
